If you talk to a materialist about this passage, they will swiftly deny any symbolic or poetic use of heart language to describe the centre of human emotional intelligence & will, & insist that the heart is merely an organ that pumps blood. But even the most atheistic of heart surgeons will be forced to admit that hardening of the arteries is a real problem.
